Sticks and Stones May Break My Bones but words will never hurt me, sounds awesome in theory but disastrous in practice. My favorite book states, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21 Words leave wounds that stay open long after bones heal. The only time I’m aware of when talking down is necessary, is when talking someone off the ledge. Speaking up is required when defending the truth or the defenseless. Words are double-edged things. They both build-up and breakdown. Proceed wisely. A favorite Chaplin of mine just posted a prayer, “Lord, help me to keep my words short and sweet. For tomorrow I may have to eat them.” If you need a good place to start, #LookUp.
